Frequently Asked Questions

How do I Register?

Click the register button & simply fill in the registration form and accept the Terms and Conditions.

You`ll also need to provide a copy of photo ID in order to complete your registration. Your account is then manually vetted, during office hours this process usually takes 60 minutes. You`ll then receive an email confirming your registration & eligibility to bid.

How do I place a Bid?

After your account is approved you`re free to place bids in any auction or disposal process.

  • 1.Log into your account using your email & password
  • 2.Once you`ve found the Lot that you`d like to place a bid on, enter the bid amount in the box and click bid.
  • 3.Enter numerical characters only, i.e. not pound signs, commas or full stops.

Can I enter a Maximum Bid?

Yes, our Online Auction bidding platform allows bidders to enter a maximum bid to be entered. For example, if you`re willing to place a bid of say £1,000 for a specific lot, you simply enter £1,000. The max bid function will then bid on your behalf against any underbidder up to your maximum, in accordance with the example above, if the underbidder placed a bid of £100 and no further bids were placed, you`d win the lot for £105.

Please note, if a maximum bid is placed by another bidder and the same bid is entered by two parties, the system will accept the first bid. If this does happen, the lot will indicate “not winning”.

How can I keep track of my bids?

All lots that you`ve placed bids on will automatically appear in the watching tab, lots will be displayed in green if your bid is current highest, or red if you`ve been outbid. You can also select lots to appear in your watching list.

What`s the 10 Minute Rule?

We operate a 10 Minute Rule; this feature extends the end time of a specific lot by 10 minutes if a new bid is placed within the last 10 minutes of a lot`s closing time. This will keep happening until there are no further bids within the final 10 minutes.

Can I Cancel my Bid?

Can I Change my Mind?

No, you`re entering into a legally binding & enforceable contract

What is Buyer`s Premium

The buyer's premium is a percentage additional charge on the hammer price (winning bid at auction) of the lot that must be paid by the winner.

How much is the Buyer’s Premium?

We charge a 15% Buyers Premium + VAT.

Where is the Online Auction Held?

The address of our Auction Centre is as follows, Gavel Auctioneers Limited, The Auction Centre, Unit 6A Cwmtillery Industrial Estate, Abertillery, S.Wales, NP13 1LZ.

We also hold Online Auctions at the premises of the Vendor, please see the “Auction Details” button on the main auction page, this provides the address of the Auction.

Can I View the Lots?

Yes, we hold a viewing day for every online auction, please see the “Auction Details” button on the main auction page, this provides the following details; viewing address, time & date.

When do I receive my Invoice & How do I Pay?

Invoices are raised after all lots have ended, you`ll be sent your invoice by email, it`ll also appear in the “My Invoices” tab when logged into your account.

We only accept payments by Bank Transfer, you may pay cash on collection for purchases under £200 ONLY. Bankers draft, cheques, Credit or Debit Cards are not accepted. You can make payments over the counter at an HSBC Bank. Account details will be on the base of your invoice. All payments are required in Full as per the payment instructions on your invoice. We will pursue buyers for non-payment

What Happens if I don’t Pay?

By placing a bid, you`re entering into a legally binding & enforceable contract, we will pursue all non-payment bidders without exception.

When do I Collect my Lots?

Please see the “Auction Details” button on the main auction page, this provides the following details; collection address, time & date.

You must collect during the specific collection period.

How do I Collect my Lots?

Collect is the responsibility of the purchaser, please ensure you have a suitable vehicle, sufficient manpower tools and equipment to remove and transport your purchases safely. Our role is strictly limited to showing you to you lots.

Tell me more about VAT & Exported Goods

VAT at the applicable rate will be added to all purchaser’s invoices without exception. All invoices are required to be paid in full without exception in the first instance and once we receive copies of your bills of lading or transport papers / delivery notes confirming the goods have left the UK and arrived at their destination and which are to our satisfaction we will refund the VAT. All transport documentation must carry our invoice details. VAT is not refundable on the Buyer’s Premium. You have 60 days from the date of purchase to submit all relevant documentation to qualify for a VAT refund

What Happens to Unsold Lots

The Majority of our Auction Lots start at £2 and are sold without reserve, we therefore have very few unsold lots. Any unsold lots are offered for sale within the next appropriate Online Auction.

How Often do you Hold Online Auctions?

We do not set rolling dates for our Online Auctions, they are held on an “as & when basis”. Once registered you`ll receive an email notifying you of each Online Auction, Private Treaty or Tender Sale.

What`s an Online Auction?

An online auction is an auction that`s held over the internet, whereby assets are sold to the highest bidder.

What`s an Online Tender?

An Online Tender sale method is a formal sales process where you submit your best & final offers via our bidding platform. Unlike an Auction, you bid blind and cannot see the current bid.

What is a Private Treaty Sale?

The agreement for the sale of an asset that is negotiated directly between the purchaser and us as the appointed agent.
